"Let there be Joy!"...... Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge #41

Hello! I hope everyone had a happy and fun weekend. We had lots of sun today which warmed things up into the 30's. This weeks Midnight Madness challenge sketch can be found HERE. Once again I got wrapped up in the details and managed to make another elaborate card. This time I became fixated on the flowers and buttons. I found some Prima flowers at Michael's this week that were dusted with really coarse clear glitter...almost like coarse sugar. They are called "Spring Petal Mix". Naturally the colors weren't right for my project so I just HAD to devise my own rendition LOL. I do love to fabricate!! There is a close up pix further down detailing my version. And of course, the buttons had to be copic airbrushed to match. I inked up some floral wires and inserted them through the button holes and spiraled the ends by wrapping the wires around my needle tool. Small MS butterfly punches were run through the Xyron X and glittered. These winged beauties were glued to the buttons.... All the flowers except the small Prima center rosebuds started out white and were airbrushed to match the paper etc...The flowers came off of a large spray of flowers from AC Moore.

Here are some close ups of the "sugared" flowers....

After pulling off all the petals I airbrushed them in different shades of purple, inserted the rosebud center and applied crystal effects where I wanted the "sugar" to be. I spooned the glitter over the flower andturned the flower over to remove the excess. I let them dry...Below is a pix of the products used to make these.

The other details are:

Paper:     K and CO DP, SU Groovy Guava, SU Perfect Plum, Neena Solar Crest 120# white for the card base.

Stamps:   SU "Illuminations"

Ink:        SU Dusty Durango, Ranger Distress Dusty Concord, Versafine Black, various copics and Spica black glitter pen (I used it to go over the "J" and give it some subtle sparkle)

Other:  Spellbinders  Nesties Labels 10 (4th one in size) Wishblade oval cut out (W: 3.63 H: 2.57) I couldn't find a nestie oval that fit right so I cut my own. MS "Iron Gate" border punch, MS Butterflies punch, white buttons and pearls. Again the small pearls were white and I sprayed them to match. Ribbons from Joann Fabrics. Bow Easy, Janome Sew-Mini.

I hope you get inspired to make your own "sugared" flowers and just have some crafting fun!

Have a great week everyone and see you again soon!

Holly

  3. Holly you have just given me an idea on how to use up some of this diamond dust I purchased at Christmas and didn't like it for the project I was doing!!! This is exquisite in detail and composition. I love your focal point and the flourishes around the sentiment. Very eye catching and appeal. The side accents with pearls are outstanding and the perfect touch. Thanks for playing along with us this week at the Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge!
